Kanpur Couple’s Time Machine Scam: Rs 35 crore for How They Fooled Everyone!

The world is full of fake business schemes, and the recent scam known as the “Time Machine” scam in Kanpur, India has left many people shocked. An Indian couple named Rajiv Kumar Dubey and Rashmi Dubey pulled off one of the biggest scams; they told people that they could use an Israeli time machine to stop aging. This fraud has duped many unsuspecting people to the tune of ₹35 crores or about 4.2 million US dollars. Now, let’s go into detail about this particular scam and what can be learned from it.

The Promise of becoming Young

At a time when people have become extremely health, fitness and beauty conscious, the Dubey couple took advantage of this to swindle millions of dollars. They promised their victims a chance to experience something that sounded too good to be true: reversing ageing. The couple insisted that the machine they were selling could reverse the ageing process of humans, making old people look like 25 years old again.

Their most effective weapon in carrying out this scam was a fake therapy centre they ran in Kanpur known as “Revival World”. The couple ran advertisements for a device they said was from Israel and promised to create anti-ageing equipment. The session they offered at the centre was called “oxygen treatment”, which was actually a kind of therapy that quacks claim to use as a magic wand to revitalise the body’s cells to make a person feel youthful. These sessions were expensive and could cost anywhere between ₹50,000-₹90,000 per session.

They targeted the Victim Aged and Vulnerable

The first targets of this scam were elderly people who wanted to move the clock forward by at least twenty-four hours. The couple took advantage of these insecurities to make them make the impossible promise of becoming young again. The victims trusted the couple and were convinced to pay large sums of money to get their youth back. Over two dozen senior citizens were duped of their savings by this scheme, who were hoping to press the joy button on the youth channel.

What made this scam even more horrifying was that it kept repeating itself over and over again. Rajeev and Rashmi Dubey promised the victims more business and threatened them that they would attract more people to the sessions than the number of people they would offer in the next sessions, so that the fraudsters would invite more people to the sessions. So many people joined the list on the recommendation of their friends.

Then How the Scam Was Exposed

Like all con men, this con too got exposed one day. People were disappointed that the act did not bring any change and soon this therapy was discontinued. It could never bring back the initial glory as promised, and slowly the people of the country started speaking the truth. They also realized that the Dubey couple was constantly cheating their customers and when some suspicions started rising, they fled. Some people went to the police and reported the situation and the authorities started investigating the couple involved in the fraud.

The authorities discovered that the two had made some absurd statements, which in fact had no scientific research or evidence. What they called a “time machine” was just a fantasy; there was no such thing as a time machine in Israel or the entire universe. It was just a miracle business, which was nothing more than a scam to empty the pockets of the gullible public.

At present, both Rajiv and Rashmi Dubey are absconding and hence the police is searching for them. The real victims of this fraud, who have probably been duped of their life savings, have been ruined financially and mentally. Some people even got a last chance to get a young and healthy body by relying on this fraud, but they never got it.

Lesson we all should learn from this incident

This scam is a good lesson for those who forget that nothing real happens with the dream of making easy money. Here are some lessons to learn from the Kanpur Time Machine scam:

Trust but verify: Take it with a pinch of salt as much as possible, especially when it comes to health and anti-ageing. Whenever you are promised to slow down or stop the ageing process, you should look for any kind of support or credibility.

Do your research: If someone hears about a new treatment procedure, technique or service and is eager to pay big bucks for it, it would be wise to spend more time researching the provider, the particular technique and the consensus among users. In the modern world, implementing them can actually be quite complicated, so research is a must.

Beware of referral schemes: Some will try to lure victims into coming across other people by offering them discounts or bonuses. If a product or service’s marketing strategy is based solely on word of mouth, it’s reasonable to wonder if the business is really working.

Don’t ignore red flags: If you have any doubts or concerns, listen to them. Victims can get frustrated when they don’t see the results they want or when they’ve wasted money and time, but in most cases the damage is already done.
The Kanpur couple time machine scam is one such ‘story’. It tells the story of how often the more fragile can be taken in by the delusion of youthful assurance, by being sold the myth of being young and renewed, all enshrouded as it is by the cosmetic gloss of providing a technological upgrade. Though the authorities are yet to apprehend Rajeev and Rashmi Dubey their ugly deeds should serve as a wakeup call to be careful with such miracles healing and unrealistic promises.

It would be prudent that we save the Earth from companies promising that they could make us look young or cure diseases through strange, unproven methods. This case also shows the extent fraudsters’ cruelty but also stresses the importance of paying more attention and being more suspicious to avoid recurrence.
